Our Mission Statement

The Society of Fairfield Italian Americans (SOFIA) is a nonprofit organization (application pending) organized to preserve and promote Italian heritage and culture through charitable, educational, and cultural activities serving the welfare of Italian-Americans in Fairfield and throughout Southeastern Iowa. Through its sesaonal activities SOFIA celebrates the Italian-American culture by presenting festivals and events featuring all aspects of Italian culture and traditions ranging from culinary arts to performing arts. Central to this theme is the preservation of traditional Italian life as experienced by Italian-Americans and their families. Through the diversity of its membership; and through lectures, language classes, touring and travel events, cooking classes, oral and written family histories, genealogical research, and films and art, SOFIA's goal of increasing the appreciation of the Italian culture among Iowans - and of preserving that unique culture for future generations - will be realized.
